The Real Del Monte Gold and Silver Mining Company Mill was founded in 1864, and situated about four miles west of Aurora on the Bodie Creek. The 9,600 square foot building was built with granite and brick at a total cost of about $250,000, An adjacent 1,700 square foot building was erected for the companies boilers. The companies mine from which ore was crushed was located high above Aurora on the Southeast hills. As the mines in Aurora declined well in to 1912, the Real Del Monte, now referred to as the Del Monte, secured a contract to crush ore from mines in Bodie.
Explorers In the present day will find that the desert has retaken the area leaving only signs of previous activity. Stone walls surround the area but the gothic buildings have slipped away.
