DOUGLAS CAMP NEVADA
Makeshift community above the Flats

Unoccupied Mining Camp
Mineral County
Circa Unknown

Above Garfield Flats lays the camp of Douglas, a makeshift residential community of sorts where homes and mines litter the Excelsior Mountains.  Judging by the way the homes sites are spread around the mountain it is hard to decide if any real organized mining took place here. The condition and attributes of the remaining structures indicates activity in to the early 1900’s. Although some of the structures were obviously built in the 1800’s.  According to mine records Gold and Quartz were the minerals being extracted here.

High Desert Drifter
Appears that times became tough and floor boards may have been used as firewood.

High Desert Drifter
Tall Tin roofs probably used to keep snow fall from settling and causing cave-ins.

High Desert Drifter
This Miners Hovel must have been really cold at night.

High Desert Drifter
This home surrendered to the elements.

High Desert Drifter
