HOLY ASH MINE CALIFORNIA
After the holy smoke clears…

Unoccupied Historic Mine
Kern County
Circa Unknown

The Holy Ash Mine is located on the far northern edge of Red Rock Canyon State Park just shy of the wilderness area and Bonanza Gulch. It was here that pumice was mined well in to the 1950’s. The Holy Ash was a direct competitor of the Dutch Cleanser Mine only a few short miles to the south. Unlike the Dutch Cleanser the tunnels of the Holy Ash are shallow and wide indicating that the operation may have developed a method of separating the pumice from foreign matters and allowing them to process the entire hillside.

There are a lot of large mining remnants lying around, and a few crumbling foundations.

Like Burro Schmidt’s and Bickel Camp, the site is a popular destination among off road enthusiasts during the weekend and holidays, but during a weekday visit the area is dead silent.
